Strengthen Yourself

And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30:7-8

There are days when we wait upon the Lord to get our strengths renewed.

Sometimes, we keep waiting until we are strong again in the Lord.

Not David.

He strengthened himself in the Lord.

He did not tarry, he did not wait until he was okay. He did not wait until the situation calmed down. He did not wait for people to comfort him so that he will finally be okay again. He did that one thing that most of us won’t do.

He—by himself, strengthened himself in the Lord. He stood up in the middle of his stressful situation. In the middle of all the bitter souls planninng to stone him. He did what was essential, he knew the most important thing of all: To inquire of the Lord.

[7] And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the ephod.” So Abiathar brought the ephod to David. [8] And David inquired of the LORD, “Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue.”1 Samuel 30:7-8

At times, I think we need to make an effort to finally find strength

Just David did.

We can wait until we are okay, but honestly, would we like to prolong the agony than resolve the matter?

David made an effort to help himself to be strong again.

What are the things that could help us in our situation right now?

Prayer?

Listening to a preaching? Or podcast?

Asking for help?

Listening to worship songs? Or worshipping?

Reading a book about our situation? The Bible perhaps?

Think. What can we do? What extra effort can we do to push ourselves another mile of strength today?

Is it physical? Maybe we haven’t eaten well in the past days? Food helped David later on after inquiring and obeying God’s instructions.

and they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. And when he had eaten, his spirit revived, for he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights. 1 Samuel 30:12

Whatever it is, I pray that we’d be strengthened and motivated to draw near and inquire of the Lord today. Talk to Him about our situation.

Be strengthened in the Lord. ♥️
